Thermal Camera with Face Detection

Update: The project has secured university grant for further development!!

A low-cost Thermal Scanner is developed to detect people with elevated body temperature on behalf of the Department of Environmental, Water Resources, and Coastal Engineering (EWCE) of Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST). OpenCV based face detection and Infrared Grid-Eye sensor have been used to detect people within the field of view and the temperature of a wide area consecutively. Combination of face detection as well as temperature data has led to identify the body temperature of individuals distinctly. Moreover, distance sensor is incorporated to increase the precision of temperature reading by determining the distance of the target body from the thermal sensor and using a calibration equation for temperature reading with distance. Also, a built-in alarm system will notify if the temperature of the target body is higher than normal.
